As the cold, winter months started to settle in here in Amsterdam, I found myself on the hunt for a thicker, nourishing moisturizer that only incorporates natural, animal and plant-based ingredients. After researching further, I found myself settled on a company called Fat of the Land.
I’ve heard of people using tallow in their skin and body care routines before, especially people with sensitive skin like mine, but I’d never actually found a company in the US that I felt comfortable trying. However, when I discovered Fat of the Land, I immediately wanted to test their products and report back to all of you. As you may well know, whenever I am reviewing products, I like to give myself about two months of testing to really see not only instant results, but results after a long term incorporation into my routine.

What really stood out to me about Fat of the Land was their ethos behind their brand. A phrase they use on their website is eating “nose to tail,” which basically boils down to finding uses for everything around us, from eating to skin care itself. All of their meat for their products is sourced from a butcher that is a passionate animal welfare and land stewardship advocate, and all of said meat is grass-fed, pasture-raised, and high quality — and even better, it’s sourced right here in the Netherlands. This means that my guilt when it comes to my carbon footprint (and yours too!) can take a breather.
I’m honestly quite shocked I haven’t tried tallow on my skin sooner. Tallow is rich in fatty acids, which are essential to protecting and strengthening the skin barrier. As someone who suffers from eczema, this is a feature I look for quite regularly. On top of that, tallow is also rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K. While Fat of the Land offers the Less is More product (which contains solely tallow and organic jojoba oil for those with the utmost sensitive skin, they also incorporate different plant extracts and oils for boosting their product’s efficacy based on your personal needs.

I purchased their Less is More cream and their Golden Hour, which incorporates chamomile and calendula, wonderful calming ingredients for my sensitive skin. I wanted to try their Milk and Honey cream as well, but sadly they were out of stock (which is good though, means it’s a popular product!). I liked the Less is More version but I fell in love with their Golden Hour cream. Calendula soothes the skin and promotes wound healing, while the powerhouse ingredient chamomile calms irritation and inflammation. The way I could watch redness fade from my skin…I haven’t seen something accomplish that in quite some time. I’ve started to use it on any dry areas of my body and the results are just as impressive.

I cannot wait to try more products that Fat of the Land has to offer. The thoughtfulness behind each product, careful choice of ingredients, it means a lot to me to be able to find a company like this, and I hope to see similar brands popping up in the future.
All my love,
Miranda
