Why I Do What I Do

I’m livid. And you should be, too.

I’m angry that using “normal” household products does this to my skin.

I’m pissed that touching your company’s “nontoxic” soap causes my eczema to flare up, spreading rashes across my sensitive skin like wildfire.

I’m infuriated that when I smell your candles, your cleaning products, your self-care products, I get headaches from the toxins they leech into the air. All the snake plants in the world cannot keep up with your mess.

I’m irate that my laundry detergent contains Lauramine oxide (which is toxic to human skin and marine life, by the way) and Sodium lauryl sulfate (which causes skin and respiratory irritation and distress).

Why are you doing this to us? Why?

Seriously, I want to know.

What did I ever do to deserve this utter bullsh*t?

Look at me. I mean, really. Look. At. Me.

The inflamed skin, the raised welts. You can see that even my eyes are red, blistering, and irritated. I did nothing to deserve this happening to my body. I was simply born. Yet there are people who are allowed to profit off of doing this to me?

In what world does that seem right?

You pretend to be family-friendly, so why aren’t you? Why do you hide harmful chemicals inside your products instead of telling us the truth? Before we get sick. Before bioaccumulation occurs and I can no longer fight off the toxins swarming throughout my body that YOU are responsible for putting there.

Your companies, your chemical-filled products, keep harming me, and I am tired of it. That is why I am here – why I do what I do. I’m here to call out every deserving, greedy individual who dares to push greenwashed products at so many peoples’ health’s expense. Their safety, their livelihood, all at risk to line your pockets. The fact that your corporations are doing this, to my body and so many unsuspecting others, is truly unforgivable. No more, no longer. Enough.

I refuse to support your toxic brands. I refuse to be a cog in this poisonous, detrimental machine of the beauty industry. I’d rather break it wide open, find the brands that care about my health and myself as a person, and share them with all of you, the community that values this progress. There is hope on the horizon, and it lies within us. Stand up for what is right, even if you are standing alone.

Your very-pissed-off sister,

Miranda Renée 🧜‍♀️
