For myself, summertime means days spent on the water. I mean, how could you possibly resist when the Atlantic Ocean is your backyard?! However, my loves, with so much sun exposure, can accelerate aging and expose my skin to all sorts of nastiness that I do not want.
Which is why I wear sunscreen. Every. Single. Day. Not just on my face! It is vital to protect your body as well, which is why I started searching for a good, clean body sunscreen when I (unfortunately) realized my old one scored a 9 out of 10 in toxicity on the EWG’s (Environmental Working Group) Skin Deep website. If you understand what that means, that’s realllll bad.
I have been testing (and LOVING!) the Sun-Defying Sunscreen Oil SPF 50 by Supergoop. I love how this body oil glides over my skin, doesn’t rub off on my clothes, and nourishes my skin with potent antioxidants. Not only does this product protect, but it keeps my skin from losing moisture when I’m out in the sun all day! Now, that’s a game-changer. 🌞
Now for the ingredient breakdown. This sunscreen oil’s ingredient list is:
Active Ingredients: Homosalate (15.0%), Octinoxate (7.5%), Octocrylene (7.0%), Octisalate (5.0%), Avobenzone (3.0%)Inactive Ingredients: Octyl Dodecanol, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, SD Alcohol 40-B, Ethylenediamine/Hydrogenated Dimer Dilinoleate Copolymer Bis-Di-C14-18 Alkyl Amide, Isodecyl Neopentanoate, Diisopropyl Sebacate, Lauryl Lactate, Alaria Esculenta Extract, Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil, Raphanus Sativus (Radish) Seed Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Tocotrienol, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Punica Granatum Fruit Extract, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Peel Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Extract, Citrus Tangerina (Tangerine) Peel Extract, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Peel Extract, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract
In full transparency, this sunscreen scores a 5/10 on the EWG’s Skin Deep site, which is definitely not my desired score for something I’m putting on my body daily. It is significantly lower than my previous sun protection product, so I consider that a win and an improvement. Slowly but steady, next time I will have to try something with an even lower score, if I can find one!
What does summertime mean for you? What are some of your favorite clean suncare products? I’d love to hear about your faves in the comments below! Have a fantastic day! 💜
